REQUIREMENTS

Miss Candidate Requirements

  • Candidate (1) must be at least nineteen (19) years of age as of December 31st in the calendar year of the State Competition in which she competes; (2) Must not be older than twenty-six (26) years of age as of December 31st of the year of the State Competition in which she competes.

  • For the avoidance of doubt, a candidate cannot turn twenty-seven (27) years of age at any time during the calendar year in which she will compete at state.

  • Grandfather Exemption: For 2022 State and Local Agreements ONLY: Since age eligibility was revised after the start of the 2022 state & local competition season, Candidates who are eighteen (18) years of age on or after July 31, 2022 (the year of the State Competition) are eligible to compete in the Miss program, as long as the Candidate is also a high school graduate or equivalent by July 31, 2022. Please note, this exemption will not be in effect for the 2023 State & Local Competition season.

  • Be a Senior in high school, high school graduate or have successfully received a GED

  • Be a United States citizen and live in the state of Florida

    • Be enrolled in and physically attending classes on a full-time basis at an accredited college or university;

    • Or be employed on a full-time basis in the state of Florida

  • Must have no children - adopted or otherwise - never been pregnant and never married or had an annulment

  • Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization

  • Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements

  • Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by Miss South Florida Scholarship Competition

  • Candidates must meet all additional requirements pursuant to the Miss America State and Local Application & Agreement:  Full Miss Program Eligibility Requirements

What do Miss candidates have to do?

  • Perform a 90-second long Talent, must be an amateur and not under contract with any talent agency or professional agent

  • Any music must be submitted as an .mp3 file and 2 CDs 

  • Have a Social Impact - an issue you are passionate about, volunteer for, or participate in

  • Write an essay about your Social Impact

  • Have a photo of yourself for the program

  • Write an essay about yourself

  • Submit a copy of your birth certificate

Outstanding Teen candidate Requirements

  • Must be at least thirteen (13) years of age on the first day of the State Competition in which she competes;

  • Must not be older than eighteen (18) years of age as of December 31st in the calendar year of the State Competition in which she could compete.

  • To further clarify, the Candidate cannot turn nineteen (19) years of age at any time during the calendar year in which she could compete at the State MAOTeen Competition.

  • Exemption for 2022 State and Local Candidate Agreement ONLY: Since the age eligibility was revised after the start of the 2022 State & Local Competition Season, Candidates who are eighteen (18) years of age on or after July 31, 2022 through December 31, 2022 (the year of the State Competition) and not 19 years old on December 31, 2022 may choose to compete in either the MAOTeen or Miss programs, as long as Candidate is a high school graduate or it's equivalent by July 31, 2022. Note, this grandfather exemption will not be in effect in the 2023 State & Local Competition Season.

  • Be a United States citizen and live in the state of Florida

  • Must have no children - adopted or otherwise - never been pregnant and never married or had an annulment

  • Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization

  • Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements

  • Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by Miss South Florida Scholarship Competition

  • Be successfully enrolled in and physically attending classes on a full-time basis at an accredited public or private school, or homeschooled within the state of competition

  • Candidates must meet all additional requirements pursuant to the Miss America's Outstanding Teen State and Local Application & Agreement: Full Miss America's Outstanding Teen Program Eligibility Requirements

What do Outstanding Teen candidates have to do?

  • Perform a 90-second long Talent, must be an amateur and not under contract with any talent agency or professional agent

    • Any music must be submitted as an .mp3 file and 2 CDs 

  • Have a Social Impact - an issue you are passionate about, volunteer for, or participate in

  • Write an essay about your Social Impact

  • Have a photo of yourself for the program

  • Write an essay about yourself

  • Submit a copy of your birth certificate
